Death for the killers of an Emirati woman

A criminal court in Khor Fakkan sentenced a Bangladeshi man and his girlfriend to death after they were convicted of murdering and robbing a 40-year-old Emirati woman, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The unnamed man killed Laila Al Gawi at her house in February with the help of her Bangladeshi housemaid and fled to Musaffah industrial city just outside Abu Dhabi before he was captured by police.

Laila, who had lived alone with her housemaid, was found dead at her house by her nephew, who had been sent by his father from Sharjah after her failure to come to her nephew’s wedding the night before.

'Emarat Al Youm' Arabic language daily said the maid also fled the house but was captured in Shrajah later. With her help, police also seized her boyfriend in Musaffah with the victim’s money and jewellery.

The paper said the court also fined a Bangladeshi housemaid at a neighbouring house Dh500 for failing to report the murder.
