A Pakistani cleaner, convicted guilty of stealing Dh2,000 from his friend’s bank account, received six months’ jail term.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered AJ, 24, to be deported after serving his sentence.

On January 7, MI, 58, security guard of the building, had asked the cleaner to withdraw some amount from his account and gave the latter the card’s security code.

After completing his duty at around 11pm, MI went to his room and slept keeping his wallet beside him on the bed.

“I woke up at around 7.30am and did not find the wallet next to my head. I searched the room, but did not find it. I checked with my colleague MK if he saw the wallet, but he denied seeing it.

I reported to my employer, who called the bank and blocked my card,” MI testified.

Ten days later, the bank issued the guard a new card.

“Checking my account, I was shocked to find that the Dh2,000 was missing. The bank confirmed it was withdrawn on the same day, I lost my wallet,” MI added.

Police nabbed the suspect using CCTV at the ATM, from where the cash was withdrawn.

The accused admitted to stealing.
