UK to repatriate thief who stole Dh30m to Dubai

Britain has agreed to extradite a Romanian man who stole nearly Dh30 million from shops in Dubai and fled the emirate last year, a senior police officer was quoted on Thursday as saying.

The money has already been retrieved while the Romanian will be brought back to Dubai by Interpol within hours, said Major General Khamis Al Mazinah, Dubai’s acting police commander.

“We found that the man is in Britain and contacted UK authorities to arrest him…he has been arrested and will be repatriated to Dubai within hours.”

Quoted by Alkhaleej newspaper, Mazinah said the unnamed Romanian managed to sneak out of Dubai last year after carrying out his operation at Nayef area.
