Dh500 loan leads to hospital and jail

A 30-year-old female Moroccan clerk, KL stabbed her neighbour, FW, 25, Moroccan housewife,  in revenge for revealing that she borrowed money. FW was left with 5 per cent permanent disability. KL was sentenced to six months in jail followed by deportation.

KL was also found guilty of possessing alcohol and was ordered to pay a fine of Dh1,000.

FW testified that on January 6, she received a phone call from KL at around 2.30am but did not take the call.

“I received another call, so I returned KL’s call, but this time KL did not take the call. I went down to her flat and asked her why she had callled. KL told me that I was damaging her reputation among the girls by telling them that she had borrowed Dh500 from me. I asked her to show me who was saying that.

“She told me she would disfigure my face and surprised me by trying to stab me with a knife. I defended myself with my bag but she managed to hit my belly and leg with the knife.

“When I fell on the floor, she dragged me by my leg to the lift and pressed the 3rd floor button. She was searching my bag and asked me for my flat’s keys. It seems someone had pressed for the lift which went down again. When the lift came up again and its door opened, she ran away and I asked the man in the lift to call the police,” testified the victim.

NGF, 21, a Pakistani student who stays in the same building, testified that as the door of the lift opened he saw an Arab woman lying on the floor. “I called the watchman and told him about that,” he testified.

Alaa Mahmoud, 20, Egyptian, watchman, testified that after getting the phone call from the Pakistani student, he went and saw the bleeding woman, so he called the police.

KL claimed that she had stabbed the victim with a broken piece of a jar.

According to the forensic report,  the victim had sustained a 5 per cent permanent disability.
