Dubai’s traffic court ordered a driver from another Gulf country to pay Dh90,000 fines after he piled up traffic offences without paying for nearly nine months.

Most of the offences involved speeding and the fines were reduced from Dh98,690 after the unnamed driver appealed with the court to reduce payment.

The 24-year-old man committed 139 traffic offences between March and December 2014, an average of more than Dh10,000 a month, according to Salah Al Falasi, head Dubai’s traffic prosecution.

He said some offences involved exceeding the speed limit on Dubai’s road by nearly 60 km and that all of them were filmed by the police cameras planted on those roads.

“He appealed with the court which decided to cut fines to Dh90,000…the driver agreed to pay all that sum,” he told ‘Emarat Al Youm’ daily.
