An Azerbaijani manager who does not hold a UAE driver licence and was involved in a traffic accident allegedly presented his friend’s licence, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

While on duty, Corporal Omar Abdullah reported a traffic accident that happened in front of him.

“I walked to the drivers of the cars involved in the accident and asked for the documents. One of the drivers took out of his wallet a driver’s licence and handed it over to me. It carried the name SS. At the police station, we found out that the licence did not belong to the driver but to another person.

“Confronting the driver, he admitted that the licence he presented was his friend’s and that he does not have a driving licence,” testified the policeman.

“I was driving the car of my friend SS. When I was asked by the policeman to submit the documents, I presented my friend’s driver licence because I do not hold a driving licence,” admitted the manager FI.

The court will give its verdict on August 31.
