Ras Al Khaimah police have seized T-shirts carrying advertisements for drugs despite tough UAE laws that even ban tobacco promotions.

The items were found at some clothes shops in the northern emirate and police said they have been in touch with competent authorities to search markets for such offences.

“We have found shirts and T-shirts in some shops bearing words promoting drugs and encouraging the youth to smoke drugs,” said Colonel Ibrahim Keptin, director of the counter-drugs division in RAK police.

He told 'Emarat Al Youm' daily that such items pose a “serious threat” to the young people in the UAE as they encourage them to try narcotics.

“This may tempt them to try drugs and consequently, they could become drug addicts. We have contacted the relevant authorities to take measures to ensure no such items are sold in the local market.”
