A Filipino cook allegedly assaulted a policeman during his arrest for possessing and selling the narcotic ‘methamphetamine’ to an informer, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

According to the records, police received a tip off about IL, 30 possessing and selling drugs.

Police arranged with the informer to arrest IL red handed while handling over drugs. The informer arranged with IL to buy drugs for Dh1,000.

Police supplied the informer with the money after taking a photocopy of the currency notes and searching the informer before he met the seller on Al Diyafah Street at around 12.30am.

A squad of anti-drugs police was assigned to carry out the arrest.

“I saw the informer talking for a little while with the accused and then the latter handed him over something before receiving the money. The informer gave the agreed signal and then we raided them,” Major Yaser Saeed told investigators.

“The accused resisted arrest and assaulted one of the arrest squad members. Policemen managed to control IL and searching him we confiscated the police notes in his possession. In his house, we did not find any prohibited things,” the officer told investigators.

The informer handed over 0.15gm of methamphetamine to the policemen.

IL told the police that he had sold drugs for Dh500 to the informer a week earlier.

Asking him about the source of drugs, the accused admitted that he is supplied by a compatriot identified as JP.

Police arrested JP, 34, after taking the necessary permission and searching his house in Al Diyafah, police did not find any drugs.

His colleague Sergeant Adel Ali repeated corroborative testimonies.

IL’s urine tested positive to drugs.

Dubai Prosecution accused both  men of possessing drugs for promotional purpose.

IL alone is accused of taking drugs and assaulting a police officer.

The accused denied the accusations and the court will reconvene on September 2.
