Drunk man gropes woman in mall's lift

An Indian worker, who groped a woman in a shopping mall after drinking a can of beer, was sentenced to three months in jail.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered, MT, 27, to pay Dh2,000 as fine for consuming alcoholand ordered him to be deported after serving his jail term.

On May 29, at around 9.30pm, MJ, 35, Filipina employee, was in the loading area of Deira City Centre.

“When I approached the lift in the loading area, I saw a man who was trying to press the lift’s button. I overtook him and pressed the button. When the lift came down, I stepped towards it. The man, who was behind me, groped my lower back with his palm while he was entering the lift. I quickly got out the lift and pressed the button to prevent him from closing the door and going up. I called the security staff who came and caught the man until police arrived,” said the woman.

MT, 27, admitted to touching the woman’s body but claimed that it was accidental and not intentional.
