Drunk men assault compatriot in Satwa

A 27-year-old drunk Filipino cook, RSS, allegedly assaulted a compatriot and caused him 30 per cent permanent disability, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim RJ, 41, testified that on July 15, 2011, at around 2am when he was playing basketball in Al Satwa area with a friend two compatriot fellow assaulted him.

“They were smelling alcohol and for no reason beat me up. I was punched in my face and fell unconscious, then I was hit with a tool that injured my head. Then they ran away. My friend took me to a friend’s house and then to the Iranian Hospital for treatment and I was unconscious; my sister lodged a complaint with the police on July 21,” he testified.

His 33-year-old friend JT testified that as they finished playing basketball near Al Maya Lal’s Supermarket and went to the main road to get a taxi.

“Two men approached my friend and I was about five metres away from them. They were talking and I was looking for a taxi. I heard my friend screaming. I turned back but did not see the two men. My friend was on the ground bleeding and the two men had disappeared. I called a friend who stayed in the area and we took him to his flat,” he testified.

Police rushed to the Iranian Hospital on July 15 after hospital informed police about receiving a man with head injuries.

Police arrested the two men and one of them confessed to punching the victim in face.

Forensic reported that the victim sustained fractions in the skull and affected the victim’s memory and hearing ability. It was estimated that the victim had permanent disability of 30 per cent.

The court will reconvene on November 14.
