A jobless Nigerian allegedly assaulted a policeman and caused him one per cent permanent disability, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

NSO, 28, is also accused of assaulting another policeman and resisting his arrest.

Corporal Haitham bin Rashid testified that at around 8pm on November 17, 2012 while he was on duty with his colleague Yaqoub Yousuf in Bani Yas metro station, he suspected the accused who was smelling of alcohol.

“I stopped him and asked him for his ID. Instead of presenting any identification document, he ran away. Pedestrians at the metro station got scared. We ran after him and we caught him before he could run out of the station’s gate.

“While we were trying to put the cuffs on his hands, he resisted and punched me several times in the face, chest and neck. He also kicked me on my private parts. He also punched my colleague before we got support from other colleagues who brought him under control and arrested him,” he testified.

His colleague repeated the same testimony, saying that he sustained a fracture in his finger. The hospital reported one per cent permanent disability.

The court will reconvene on June 3.
