Dubai Police arrested two armed Iranians who shot an Indian businessman and robbed his money in a daring day light burglary last week. The two were captured in Sharjah after putting up tough resistance against police.

“We will hunt any one who will even try to harm this country’s security and spread fear among people,” Dubai police commander Lt General Dahi Khalfan said after announcing the capture of the two assailants.

“We managed to capture them thanks to the vigilance and experience of our security organs…any criminal who thinks he is so clever to get away with such ugly crimes should have second thought in face of our powerful security system, which has overcome even the world’s biggest gangs.”

Newspapers quoted his deputy, Major General Khamis Matar Al Mazainah, as saying the two Iranians had shadowed an Indian man just as he stepped out of a bank in Bani Yas area with a bag full of money on Tuesday.

He said that after the man handed over the money to the Indian businessman at a shop on Burj street and went upstairs, they entered the shop and aimed a gun at the trader’s head. When he refused to hand them the money, they shot him and fled with the money to an unknown destination.

He said the burglary lasted just 30 seconds and that the businessman was rushed to hospital in a serious condition, adding that he had now stabilized.

In another statement, Brigadier Khalil Al Mansoori, director Dubai’s criminal investigation department, said 23 police teams had been deployed to track down the two attackers and that they had finally succeeded in locating them in Sharjah.

“After obtaining permission from the competent authorities, police raided their apartment in Musallah area in Sharjah…although they put up tough resistance, they were overpowered and arrested and their weapons seized….all the stolen money was recovered,” he said.
