A jobless Emirati man is standing trial for allegedly holding a woman hostage in his room, hurting and attempting to rape her, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

The victim, a visitor from Kyrgyzstani, told the court that on January 15, at about 2am she along with her friend went to a hotel, where they met two Emiratis. The four then headed to another Emirati’s home in Al Barsha.

“After spending about half-an-hour at his house, the men left the room and my friend told me that he would return in a few minutes. I stayed back with the accused. Later, when I wanted to leave I discovered he had locked the door and had hid the key. He asked me to drink alcohol. I took a little bit. Then he insisted me to have more and forced me. When I refused, he slapped my face, pulled my hair and pushed me on to the bed and attempted to molest me,” she told investigators.

“When I resisted him with all my force, he burnt my stomach with a coal from his shisha. He also threatened to kill me if I did not relent. He threatened to kill me and said that he would hide my body,” she claimed.

However, soon after that both of them fell asleep. She woke up only the following morning and discovered her phone was missing. She searched his house and found it underneath the refrigerator. She called police, who had to break open the door to rescue her.

The court will reconvene on July 12.
