Three people attacked a fish dealer and robbed Dh150,000 and two mobile phones from him at knife point and ran away after locking him in his car, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

MA, 32, Pakistani, left his home at 2.45am on December 30, 2013 after putting Dh100,000 in his right pocket and Dh50,000 in the left one. He headed for his Honda Accord car which was parked on the main street in Abu Hail.

“I opened the car’s door and sat in the driver’s seat and as I was putting the key in the switch, I was surprised to see a man opening the driver’s door and another one opening the right front seat door, pointing their knives at my neck.

“They asked me to give them my money. I told them I don’t have any. They threatened to kill me and started searching my pockets. They pulled the money out of my pockets besides my two mobile phones.  They locked me in the car and ran away after throwing the key in the street. I noticed a third man was standing behind the car observing the area,” the victim told investigators.

The victim managed to get out from the car after about two minutes and headed to his house and called the police. Police investigated the complaint and identified MK, RW, and FA as suspects.

On January 6, the three suspects were spotted in Frij Murar area. They resisted arrest and attempted to flee, but police succeeded in arresting them.

MK admitted committing the crime and told  police that, of other two Pakistanis involved, ‘MB’ was mastermind of the robbery.

“MB, a fugitive, had planned to rob MA who he knew had large amounts of money.  We agreed to help him and attack the man and rob the money. A day before the attack, MB took us to the accommodation of MA and showed us his car. On the following day, we went in MB’s car to the residence of MA at around 2am. We got off the car except for MB who said he will wait a little farther in his car as MA knew him. He gave us knives and asked us to go and wait for him near his car. When the fish dealer came out of his house and got into his car, we attacked him and threatened him with knives and demanded that he give us his money. Others were standing near and behind the car to intervene if they were needed,” MA told investigators.

Some of the attackers headed to where MB was waiting for them while others took a taxi to Sharjah Corniche where they handed over the money to MB who gave each of them Dh17,000 and took the rest. RW and FA took the mobile phones of the victim.

On the next day, the crime’s mastermind gave MA Dh50,000 as his share and asked him not to tell the others. MA kept the money with a compatriot in Abu Dhabi called IA, 24, after sending Dh7,000 to his parents back home in Pakistan.

The other accused people also admitted committing the robbery. Police could retrieve only one of the victim’s mobile phone which was given as a ‘gift’ to someone called ‘Mazhar’. Mazhar was arrested and he denied any role in the robbery and claimed that the mobile phone in his possession was given to him as a gift by FA.

The second mobile was thrown away in Sharjah, as the other accused who took it told investigators. The victim could recognise MK and RW who were not wearing masks when they attacked him in the car.

The prosecution accused MA, 27, FA, 23, both jobless and RW, 27, student, of attack and robbery. IA, 24, jobless, is accused of possessing stolen money.

The Court will give its sentence on April 27.
