The Operations Room of the Dubai Police reported 140 traffic accidents and received 900 emergency phone calls early on Sunday morning due to the heavy fog that had blanketed the emirate.

All the above were recorded between 3am and 9am.

Brigadier Omar Al Shamsi, Director, Command and Control Centre, General Directorate of Operations, appealed to drivers and road users to exercise caution and pay attention during bad weather, especially when there is fog.

Shamsi appealed to drivers to follow the advice and guidance released by official agencies due to low visibility and not to drive too fast or recklessly.

He advised motorists to check the cleanliness of windshields, windows, lights and signals and to leave enough of distance between vehicles.

He stressed the importance of using headlights in the early morning hours and the need to use hazards only when an accident has taken place or to warn other drivers of the presence of something unusual on the road.
