Dubai police arrested a hotel employee for stealing data on nearly 75 credit cards belonging to customers and using them for personal shopping.

Police said they suspected a hotel worker was behind the theft after two men from other Arab countries reported that their cards had been used by another person and that both of them had stayed at the same hotel.

“After investigating the two reports, we found that both men had stayed at the same hotel in different periods,” said Major Saeed Al Hajri, head of the electronic crime division at the criminal investigation department in Dubai.

“We suspected one employee who later confessed during questioning that he used the cards to buy electronics and other items for himself.”

Quoted by 'Emarat Al Youm' daily, Hajri said police searching that employee’s apartment found copies of 75 credit cards.

“He admitted that he used to wait for customers to check out so he could use the credit card,” he said.
