While searching for an unemployed Emirati accused of rape, Dubai Police arrested him on the Dubai-Al Ain road accompanied by a woman who alleged that he had just raped her.

Apart from the recent rape case, FJ, 29, unemployed, is also being prosecuted for two other similar cases.

“We were searching for FJ who was accused by a woman, MM, of conning and raping her. MM had complained that the accused had first promised to solve her financial problems and then promised to marry her. Then, threatening her that he would cause a scandal involving her and that he would not return her passport, he raped her. We found out that another similar complaint had been lodged with the police against the same accused by a woman identified as ‘F’,” testified Captain Mohammed Ibrahim.

Police got a tip off that the accused is present in the Al Ruwaiya area on Dubai-Al Ain road. A police patrol spotted his car and stopped him.

“The accused was accompanied by a woman who was crying badly. Asking her about the reason, she said she has just been raped by the accused in the desert off the road,” testified Captain Mohammed Ibrahim.

AJ, 35, unemployed Emirati woman, told police that on April 21, she got a phone call from a person she did not know.

“As I did not know the caller, I told him I am busy and that I would call back later, though I did not want to. At about 2pm, he called again and started giving descriptions of myself, my car and my friend, saying that I had met him at Al Mamzar area. Then he praised me and offered to marry me. He also asked me if I was employed. When I told him I am looking for a job, he offered to find me a job in the Armed Forces where his sisters worked. He asked me to meet his sister. I agreed to meet her at around 4.30pm on the same day in a mall on Dubai-Al Ain Road,” AJ testified.

The accused arrived in a Land Cruiser and asked the victim to get into the vehicle with him. When she refused, he assured her about his good intentions and that he really wanted to help her. He said he wanted to take her home to meet his mother and sisters.

She got into his car and he called a friend telling him that they will meet in Al Ain. AJ then asked him to drop her where he had picked her up as she did not want to go with him to Al Ain. But he refused and drove instead into the sands off the road.  He told her he will show her his father’s farm and cattle.

AJ testified: “I asked him to please drive me back to my car. I cried when he stopped in an isolated area and said he would not take me back until I take off my dress and have sex with me. I tried to run away but the door was locked. He snatched the mobile phone from my hand and threw my bag on the back seat and started shouting at me, asking me to take off my dress. When I refused, he threatened to bring workers of the farm to gang rape me.

“Then he started drinking alcohol and drove about 4km into the desert before stopping again. I tried to run away through the back door but he caught and forcibly undressed me. Then he called his friends and asked them to come to the location and give them directions. He said if I did not obey him, he would ask his friends to gang rape me. I told him I am in the midst of the menstrual period though I was not. Then he asked me to sexually please him. I submitted to his order as I was scared of gang rape. He groped my private parts and hurt me a lot. So I scratched his private parts and blood came out,” AJ testfieid.

AJ’s then put on his dress and drove her back. On his way towards where her car was parked, police stopped him and found the victim in his car who complained about the rape.

The accused denied raping his companion and claimed that it was consensual sex.

Forensic reported cells of the victim on the accused’s private parts in addition to a recent scratch on his neck. The victim was reported to have been subjected to sodomy.

The Court will reconvene on November 3.

The Prosecution noted that it has finished investigations into two similar crimes allegedly committed by the accused. The first court hearing of one of the cases will be on November 14. The date for the other is yet to be set by the court.
