Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Deputy Chief Commander for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police said that online patrols are operating round-the-clock to monitor criminal activity in the cyber world, reported Al Bayan newspaper.

He pointed out that adults pose as children online and communicate with them via chat games. Parents should be aware of these issues and protect their children.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Al Mansouri disclosed that Dubai Police has arrested three Asians as they were blackmailing a woman and threatening her.

He pointed out three persons blackmailed the victim through her ex-boyfriend who had provided them with her private photos.

The victim said that certain people were blackmailing her as they had her private images in their possession.

The women said that she ignored them  but she was surprised when they sent her a link containing her photos, which made her panic.

She added they demanded Dh30,000 in exchange for not exposing her pictures and posting them on social networks.

Al Mansouri said that upon receiving the complaint, a team of e-patrols began to research and investigate the source of the images.

He added after this investigation it has been discovered that the accused used a telephone line registered in the name of a person who had no relationship with them.

He added that the culprits worked hard to ensure that it would not be able to track them.

He added the team got permission of the prosecution and convinced the victim to meet with them to hand them over the money and the culprits were trapped and arrested.

Maj. Gen Al Mansouri mentioned there is significant growing awareness in the community towards extortion via email, and particularly extortion via Skype.

He pointed out that this kind of complaint has seen significant decline after reaching a difficult phase over the past year.
