Dubai policeman on trial for possessing drugs

A policeman allegedly possessed different types of drugs for personal use, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

MB, 49, was arrested following a tip-off received by the Anti-Narcotics Department about him possessing and taking drugs. After obtaining necessary permission from Dubai Prosecution, police arrested MB at his work place.

“Searching him we confiscated Tramadol and Triphen2 in his pocket and  in his car we found some tablets and a piece of hashish hidden in a cigarette box,” Second Lieutenant Kahlid Abdullah told investigators.

The officer also said that the accused had asked him to get rid of the hashish piece as to protect him from being prosecuted for drug consumption.

Police confiscated more than 30 tablets and parts of tablets in addition to 0.23 gramme of hashish.

MB admitted taking drugs but claimed that was under medical treatment and denied taking hashish. His urine test was positive to Tramadol.

The court will give its verdict on October 30.
