Both to be deported after serving terms

Two Afghanis, who broke into electronics shops and stole 1,977 mobile phones worth more than Dh1.3million, have been sentenced to six months in jail each.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance ordered SB, 23, jobless and BZ, 22, a visitor, to be deported after serving their terms.

On April 17 at around 2.45am a police patrol while roaming in Fareej Al Marrar area suspected a pickup that was loaded haphazardly.

“I signed to the driver to stop but instead he sped away and when tried to turn to a branch road, he collided into four cars that were parked. This forced the driver to stop but he fled along with another person leaving behind the pickup running. My colleague and I chased the two but we lost them,” testified First Sergeant Abdulsalam Saeed.

The two policemen noticed the door of an electronics shop was open. Crime scene investigators were rushed to the scene and the owner of the company was informed.

RA, 39, Indian partner, rushed to the scene at around 4am and after checking the shop he reported that 1,977 mobile phones of different brands including two mobiles of clients were missing. The value of the stolen mobiles was put at Dh1,375,070.

Police confiscated 1,774 from the pick-up but 207 gadgets valued Dh220,420 were still missing.

Reviewing recordings of CCTV cameras inside and outside the shop, police found out that there were about six thieves.

Police found out that the used pickup was rented from a company in Al Ain.

Police arrested four gang members from their apartment in Ras Al Khaimah, who provided more information about the duo.
