Electrical cable thefts are on the rise, says police

Sharjah Police arrest four Bangladeshi men who are accused of stealing electric and copper cables from various warehouses in the industrial area.

Police stepped into action after receiving several complaints. Their initial investigations found that all the robberies were conducted in the same manner.

They laid the trap and nabbed the culprits who have confessed to stealing the items.

Police urged warehouse owners to guard their stores well and also to keep the premises well lit at night.

In a separate incident, another Asian gang specialized in melting copper cables which they steal was arrested from Al Ain.

The police confiscated huge catche of stolen cables from their home in Liwa city.

Officials say cable robberies have increased off late because it is easy money. People staying illegally in the UAE and having no means of earning their livelihood are those who indulge in such activities.
