A 24-year-old Emirati driver smashed two police speed cameras in Fujairah and tried to set them ablaze before he was arrested by police.

The driver confessed to his crime and told police he had done so because he had been hunted by the cameras many times while exceeding the speed limit.

Police said the man smashed the glass of two speed cameras on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road leading to Dubai and tried to set them on fire.

Another Emirati driver who happened to be passing in that area phoned the police, which urgently sent patrols.

“Our men managed to indentify the car and know the driver who did this…he was arrested and would be subject to legal measures for committing this crime,” said Major Saeed Al Hassani, information and public relations acting director at Fujeirah police.

“During interrogation, he confessed to committing this crime…he said he had done it because he was angry at the many pictures taken by the cameras of his car.”
