A teen age Emirati driver was killed on Saturday when his car rammed into a truck on the way from Dubai to his home in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain.
Police said the accident was likely caused by speed as the impact was so strong that the driver, Mohammed al Kaabi, died instantly.
The accident took place in Al Khadr area between Dubai and Al Ain in the afternoon, the Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said, adding that several police cars and ambulances rushed to the scene.
“The accident was likely caused by high speed and lack of attention on the part of the driver,” it said, quoting Major Salah Al Humairi, acting director of Al Ain traffic police.
The paper said the victim is the son of well-known UAE poet Jumma bin Nayem al Kaabi.
