Employee gropes co-worker at work place

An Indian financial analyst allegedly molested his co-worker when she was preparing tea in the work place kitchen, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The 27-year-old victim, DB, Indian employee, was preparing tea in the kitchen at the work place when the accused entered the room and groped her behind

“I shouted at him and rushed out of the kitchen heading to the lift… the accused got into the lift after me and groped my face and head. When the door opened on the second floor, I rushed to my senior and told her what the accused had done. When my senior did not take any action, I went to HR and reported the incident.

"The HR manager confronted the accused with my complaint and he admitted to what he did. The HR manager promised to penalisethe accused but as she did not do anything for two weeks, I lodged a complaint with the police,” testified the victim.

The HR manager testified that the accused had admitted to groping his co-worker but claimed that it was accidental and, being a friend, he did that without any bad intention.

“We issued him a warning not to do that in the future or he would be dismissed from work,” she testified.

The accused told the police that he had accidently touched the victim in the kitchen and that he had  touched her face when they were in the lift in a gesture of  allowing her to get out of the lift before him

The Court will reconvene on March 30.

African robbed Dh55,000 from pedestrian​'s pocket after hitting him

An jobless Ethiopian, allegedly helped by an already convicted compatriot, hit a pedestrian and stole Dh55,000 from his pocket, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

AA, 36, Pakistani company representative, was asked by his senior to transfer Dh5,000 to a company client and to collect a Dh50,000 cheque from a bank.

“On February 27, 2013, at around 8am my senior handed me Dh5,000 to transfer it to a client and handed me a cheque of Dh50,000 and asked me to collect it from a bank and deposit the amount in the company’s account.

"I collected the Dh50,000 and put it in my pocket together with the Dh5,000 cash. Just before I stpped into the bank, an African hit my leg. When I looked at him to ask him why he did that, another African hit meand left the scene. I realised that the two had robbed meonly when I entered the bank and put my hand in my pocked which was empty,” the victim testified.

Police arrested the accused following increasing number of  robberies reported by bank clients.

A car used by the suspect was stopped forcibly after the driver tried to run away. The descriptions given by the victim matched  thoseof the accused who had a criminal record.

The accused, who was recogniseded by the victim, admitted to the crime.

His accomplice HM, who had been acquitted by the Court of First Instance,  was sentenced to one year in prison followed by deportation by the Appeals and the Cassation Courts.

Dubai cop asked for Dh3,000 bribe for not issuing a fine

A police corporal allegedly asked a motorist to pay him a bribe of Dh3,000 against not issuing him a traffic ticket, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

At dawn on January 19, FA, a Saudi national, stopped his car in the street to talk to a friend he saw in the area. A police patrol stopped and Corporal YY got off the patrol and talked to driver and asked him to present jos and his car’s documents.

“He told me  he will issue a ticket of Dh10,000 for blocking the traffic in addition to seizing my car for one month. I begged him not to do so and promised not to repeat the violation. I also told him that I will be leaving the UAE on the same day. He took me aside and told him that he will not fine me if I pay him half the fine, that is, Dh5,000.  I bargained with him about the amount and he reduced it to Dh3,000,” FA told investigators.

The motorist told the policeman that he did not have the amount in cash with him and so the latter gave him his contact number to arrange the payment of the amount later in the day.

The driver informed the police about the incident and showing him pictures of Jebel Ali patrol staff, he recognized YY as the one who had asked him for a bribe.

While the victim was complaining to the police, he received two phone calls from YY who asked him to meet him at Al Maktoum Airport to hand him over the money and receive the car's documents.

As the specified location for  handling over the money was open and difficult to be watched, police asked the motorist to call the accused and change the location to Dragon Mall.

The accused accepted  and the motorist was supplied with Dh3,000 of police money after photocopying the currency notes.

At 3pm the accused arrived at the location in a taxi and the accused was arrested red handed.

The accused admitted to the crime.

The Court will give its verdict on April 15.

Two jobless youth steal diesel from Etisalat station

Two jobless Pakistanis allegedly stole diesel worth Dh40,729 from an Etisalat reinforcement station in Al Wahda area and sold it to trucks on Emirates Road.

MY, 25, and TA, 28, allegedly crawled under the station’s fence, broke the tank’s lock and inserted a pipe to pump out the diesel before running away.

JM, Etisalat employee, informed that the control section that the station at Al Wahda had run out of diesel.

 Etisalat discovered the theft of about 1,446 litres of diesel from the station’s tank.

Police investigated the complaint and based on information that  two people  were selling diesel on Emirates Road at a discounted price.

Police arrested MY and TA who were selling diesel for Dh11.20 per gallon. Confronting them with the theft, the two admitted to breaking into Al Wahda station.

The Court will reconvene on March 30.

Two broke surveillance cameras of store they were robbing

Two thieves, who discovered surveillance cameras while they were stealing steel from a store, broke the cameras, left behind the stolen things and ran away, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

According to the records, the theft was discovered by the store’s staff on January 1, 2011 after finding the lock of the gate  broken and  thrown into the store.

Reviewing the camera footage, it was found out that two men had entered the store on Friday morning and filled a bag with pipe fittings.  When they saw the cameras, they had broken them, left behind the bag and ran away after replacing the broken lock with a new one.

Police arrested two jobless Indians MM and RK, both 25, for their involvement in this and other thefts reported in the area.

The Court will reconvene on March 30.
