The federal supreme court ordered a labour supervisor at a private firm in Ajman to pay a Dh50,000 fine for illegally hiring a worker who is sponsored by another company, overturning a previous acquittal sentence by an appeals court.

A court in Ajman had earlier fined the unnamed employer Dh50,000, prompting him to appeal the sentence on the grounds the company needed that worker.

The prosecution then referred the case to the supreme federal court, which overturned the appeals sentence and ordered the employer to pay the fine.

The prosecution argued that the defendant acted against the country’s labour laws and that he also has no powers to hire other workers since he is not the owner or the manager of that firm.
