An Arab national has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing a car from one of the car showrooms in Umm Al Quwain (UAQ), reported ‘Al Bayan’ daily.

He will be deported after serving his term.

The suspect, who was an engineer with a company in Ras Al Khaimah, broke into the car showroom in UAQ, stole a number of car keys before driving away in one luxury car.

He headed straight to a garage in a neighbouring emirate and told the owner that the car belonged to his company and he was asked to sell it for scrap.

But to his bad luck, the showroom official saw the car being towed away and informed cops.

Police immediately left for the site and arrested the suspect red-handed while accepting money from the garage owner.

He confessed to committing the crime and legal action followed.
