European admits to pepper-spray attack to rob pedestrian

A 51-year-old Eurpoean sales representative admitted to spraying red pepper liquid on a pedestrian’s face and attempting to steal the victim’s bag which contained Dh6,000.
 
On May 18, MY, attacked AM, 54, a Pakistani representative of a hotel.

“I had put the money in a laptop bag and went to deposit part of it in the bank. After I did that, I left the mall with Dh6,000 still in the bank. As I was stepping towards my car in the parking lot, a European man rushed towards me and sprayed a burning substance on my eyes... he snatched the bag from my hand and ran away.... I screamed for help and men ran after the attacker who threw the bag and continued running... The men chased him until they got hold of him,” the victim told investigators.
 
SK, 23, Nepali taxi driver, testified that as he was stopping at Ibn Battuta Mall, he saw men were running after a European man and were screaming for help.
 
The European man was running towards my direction. I got off the car and tried to catch him. He resisted me and sprayed a burning substance in my eyes...however,  I continued holding him until other men arrived and caught him. The police arrived and arrested the attacker.
 
The court will give its verdict on July 21.
