European held in Dh500m project scam

Abu Dhabi Police arrested a European man accused of forging documents by his company to build a tourism project in Al Ain at a cost of Dh500
million.

An Asian contractor who was awarded a Dh300,000 subcontract by the defendant, had suspected the offer and reported the European to his company.

The forged contract showed the project involved the construction of 85 villas in Al Ain for a UAE hotel at a cost of Dh500 million and that the defendant is authorized to market those units. The company reported its employee to the police, who raided his house in Dubai and seized forged documents and other papers.

“They all carried forged signatures and company stamps…the defendant confessed to forgery but said he had not used the documents,”
Alkhaleej Arabic language daily said without identifying the European.
