A 51-year-old European sales representative, who admitted spraying red pepper liquid on a pedestrian’s face to steal the victim’s bag, on Monday received 6-month jail for the robbery attempt.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance ordered MY to be deported after serving his jail term.

The Court records show that on May 18, AM, 54, a Pakistani working for a hotel, was heading towards a bank to deposit the money.

“I had put the money in a laptop bag and went to deposit part of it in the bank in a shopping mall. After depositing the money I left the mall with Dh6,000 still in my bag.

“As I going towards my car in the parking lot of the mall, a European rushed towards me and sprayed a burning substance on my eyes. He snatched the bag from my hand and ran away. I screamed for help and men ran after the attacker who threw the bag and continued running. The men chased him until they got hold of him,” the victim told investigators.

SK, 23, Nepali taxi driver, testified that as he stopped at Ibn Battuta Mall, he saw men were running after a European and were screaming for help.

“The European was running towards my direction. I got off the car and tried to grab him. He resisted and sprayed a burning substance in my eyes. But I managed to grab him until other men arrived and caught him. The police arrived and arrested the attacker,” the Nepali taxi driver told the court.
