An Emirati who posed as a CID officer and robbed a carpenter on the street, refused to stop when a genuine CID staff asked him to check his identity.

TM, 22, Bangladeshi complained to police that on July 29 at around 4pm he was walking towards his accommodation in Jebel Ali.

“A green car stopped and the driver asked me to come to him. When I reached him, he asked me for my identity card. I took out my wallet and gave him my labour and ID cards. He asked me to get into his vehicle and asked for my old labour card.

“I told him that this was my first one and I don’t have a previous card. He took my wallet and started searching it. I saw him taking money from my wallet. He returned the wallet to me and pushed me out of the car and drove away. Checking my wallet I found out that he had taken Dh2,600,” testified the victim.

A CID patrol in a civil car in Al Quoz residential area suspected a green BMW roaming in the area. The patrol asked the motorist to stop but instead he increased the speed of his vehicle.

“We followed and stopped him. Asking him why he did not stop, he answered the he doesn’t stop for CID. We asked him about his ID and found out that he is wanted,” testified Corporal Abdul Rahman Ibrahim.

The victim recognised the accused when shown to him via identification parade.

The accused, AS, 40, Emirati businessman, denied impersonating a CID officer, robbing the carpenter and refused to talk to policemen.

The Court will give its verdict on January 9.
