The Nigerian, who was arrested after he met with a road accident while trying to flee after fake dollar notes were found in his possession by a money changer’s staffer, was sentenced to three months in jail.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered SH, 30, to pay Dh2,000 as fine and to be deported after serving his jail term.

According to the records, Indian money exchange accountant NO, 40, was approached by the accused at 8am last December 12.

“He gave me a note of US$100 and then gave another one. From their touch I knew they were forged. I picked up the phone and called the police. I sought help of the security staff of a nearby supermarket to catch him,” NO told investigators.

However, the accused managed to run away. Police arrived and were informed about the forged notes and the customer who had fled. Searching the area, police suspected an African who had met with a road accident.

Police confiscated 13 currency notes of $100 each from the purse of SH.

Criminal Evidences reported that the notes were well forged. The accused claimed that he got the notes from another person as guarantee for the UAE dirhams that he had lent him. However, he admitted knowing that the dollar notes were forged.
