Five Indians who burgled a store of a company and stole electronic goods worth about Dh600,000, were sentenced to one year in jail, followed by deportation.

The accused who are identified as SBQ, 27, labourer, MMH, 25, cook, ANA 26, MRA, 27, and MRT, 30, all jobless, broke into the store in Al Qusais Industrial Area 4 using a steel bar and a cutter and loaded TVs, head phones and many other electronic products on  to trucks at night on July 6.

Two others identified as ABM, 42, jobless Bangladeshi, and SYA, 44, Indian shop manager,  were charged guilty of possessing stolen goods and were sentenced to three months in jail and Dh1,000 fine by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

According to the records, the company’s manager DSS, 35, Indian, testified that the store was closed because of an official holiday.

“I received a call from a friend who told me that he saw the emergency door of the store broken. So I notified the police and checked the stolen goods and found out that their estimate value was about Dh600,000,” he testified.

Investigating the theft complaint, police found out that the stolen goods were stored in an Arabic-style house in Sharjah.

“Police kept the house under watch until one day the accused four came to the house. They were arrested and the goods confiscated,” testified First Lieutenant Hamad Obaid.

They admitted breaking into the store and stealing the goods with the help of the fifth accused. ABM claimed that some people approached him on July 6 with trucks loaded with electronics and asked him for a place to store them against Dh3,000.

“I agreed and they gave me Dh2,000 and so they unloaded the lorries and put the things in the house,” he testified.

SBQ told investigators that he was approached by both MMH and ANA who told him that they intend to burgle a store in Qusais and offered to participate by contacting drivers of trucks they knew and supervise the loading operation.

“I contacted the drivers who brought porters with them. I went with them to the store and the rear door was already open. We loaded electronics from 5am to 4pm… I gave the drivers the contact number of ANA to tell them where to unload the goods. I do not know where they have been unloaded,” SBQ told investigator.

The rest of the accused confessed to burgling the store.AAM,28, Pakistani,  lorry driver denied knowing that the items were stolen. “I agreed with a man to transport cargo from a store to a house in Sharjah for Dh400 and Dh50 per porter. The man instructed the porters what to load. I thought that he worked in the store. After loading electronic products and reaching Sharjah, we were asked to meet a man at a petrol station near Kuwait Hospital. This man told us where to unload the goods,” he told the police.

Anther truck driver KMM, 32, Pakistani repeated the same testimony. Both drivers recognised SBQ when shown to them via identification parades.
