A jobless Nigerian along with a fugitive allegedly broke into a phone shop and stole 8,312 flash memory cards of different capacities worth a total of Dh127,567, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The shop, owned by Iranian trader KA, 51, was monitored by cameras.

“Reviewing camera footage, I saw an African man getting into the shop and stealing at 4.53am,” the victim told police.

Checking the report and comparing it with other thefts that were committed recently in Naif area, police investigated with an African who was in detention for similar theft complaints.

AB, 22, admitted to committing the theft of flash memories from the victim’s shop together with compatriot AI.

“We broke the shop’s door and got into the shop and stole different types of flash memory cards,” confessed AB.

The accused guided police to the shop that he had burgled with his friend.

The court will give its sentence on October 28.
