Forged document user gets 6 months in jail

A Nigerian visitor was found guilty of attempt to swindle by using a forged passport and credit card and was sentenced to six months in jail followed by deportation by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

According to the records, IB, 25, visited a mobile phone shop in Jumeira and presented a passport and a credit card after selecting mobile phones valued at Dh23,000.

The shop’s salesman MK, 26, Jordanian, suspected the credit card after the customer signed on the purchase bill. He informed the police who came and arrested IB who was caught by the security staff and the documents he used confiscated.

Police found out that the passport and the credit card were forged. The passport did not belong to the accused and the entry and exit seals were also forged.

The accused claimed that he got the passport and the credit card from a compatriot whom he knew only by his first name and that latter had asked him to buy mobile phones using them. He claimed that he agreed as the latter had promised to give him some money which he was in a badly in need of. He denied knowledge that the documents were forged.
