Girl climbs power pylon in Fujairah suicide bid

An Emirati girl believed to be suffering from mental illness climbed up a power pylon in Fujairah and threatened to jump down before she was saved by the civil defence.

Police and civil defence rushed to Qidfa area in the eastern emirate on Wednesday night following a call that a girl was trying to commit a suicide from a power pole.

‘Emarat Al Youm’ daily quoted a police source as saying civil defence men managed to save the girl before jumping down, adding that she was slightly hurt and was taken to hospital.

The source said did not specify the girl’s age but said she apparently is suffering from mental illness and was trying to ‘scare’ her family.
