The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sharjah Police have arrested a gang involved in scamming people by calling them up and asking them to transfer their phone balance to access a prize they had won.

The accused often claimed to be representatives of telecom firms, which is what caused people they called to complain to the police.

The Sharjah CID raided an apartment and arrested the seven men, of Pakistani nationality, and also recovered a large number of sophisticated, smart phones, in addition to financial remittances of cards, in both Arabic and English.

The gang confessed to the charge and said that the gang leader trained them to carry out acts of fraud giving them a percentage of the funds.

Faisal Bin Nassar, deputy director, CID, called on the public to report on the activities of this kind, by calling 065943210 number or the toll-free number 901.
