A 31-year-old Comoros national called ‘AK’ threatened a 52-year-old Emirati in a hotel, demanding more than Dh5,000 which he claimed he had been offered to kill the victim.

While the Emirati victim was in a night club in Al Qusais at around 2am, a man approached him and asked him if his name was Ali and if he was from Sharjah.

“When I answered yes, he asked me to touch the top of his pocket to be sure that he had a knife. He said he had a weapon with which he can kill anyone. Then he asked me to come out of the club. I went with him and we stood near the lift. Suddenly, he pulled out the knife from his pocket and told me that some people had rented him to kill me in return for Dh5,000. He asked me to pay him more if I did not want to be killed. He also said that he does not care if he killed me as he had a criminal record and nobody would know if he killed me,” said the victim.

The victim approached a security guard and informed him about the incident.

AF, 51, Syrian manager of the club, told police that AK was creating problems for the club.

“He first had a problem with the security guard. I intervened and sorted it out. When he entered the club he signalled to the victim to come towards him but the latter did not notice him. He immediately stepped towards him and then they both went out.  After about five minutes I went out and saw AK standing alone. A security guard approached and told me that AK possessed a knife. I called other security guard and we got the knife that was in his ‘kandora’ pocket and informed the police,” said the club manager.

AK is also accused of consuming alcohol. He was not present in the court to present his plea.

The court will reconvene on March 26.
