A pregnant Emirati mother who underwent an operation at Dibba Fujeirah hospital to abort a dead fetus in its early stages return a few days later to complain that she was still pregnant.

Umm Bassim, 25, had to abort the seven-week-old infant after doctors told her the fetus was dead after its pulse had stopped for some reasons.

Nearly five weeks later, she started again to feel the symptoms of pregnancy, prompting her to visit a private medical centre in the town.

“I had a Sonar test and the surprise was that I was pregnant in my 12th week…this means that the fetus bag was still in place and that I was carrying a dead infant in my womb,” Umm Bassim told Emirat Alyoum daily.

The paper quoted Dibba hospital manager Abdullah Al Kaabi as saying Umm Bassim had filed a complaint against the hospital, adding that the management would investigate the issue once the doctor who treated Umm Bassim returns from her vacation abroad.

A gynaecologist who tested Umm Bassim at the private clinic said Dibba hospital had committed a grave medical error which could cause haemorrhage to the woman and endanger her life.
