Sharjah Police have arrested two men who worked at a private hospital in Sharjah for allegedly stealing credit card information from patients.

An official at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police said that one suspect worked as an accountant while the other was employed as a janitor.

According to a police official both suspects, Filipinos, have been charged with several counts of fraud, theft, and forgery.

Police launched an initial investigation after receiving a complaint about online transactions on a card belonging to one hospital patient, totaling Dh9,300.

The fraud and duplication section at the CID soon identified one of the suspects as a janitor at a Sharjah-based hospital.

Sharjah Police then raided the suspect's home and discovered a number of credit cards, in addition to information from other credit cards that had also been used to purchase goods online.

The suspect confessed that he collaborated with an accountant who also worked at the same hospital who stole the cards and its information while patients swiped their credit cards to pay their hospital bill.

The men used the card information to buy cameras, mobile phones, watches and electronic items on the internet.

The goods purchased online were then allegedly re-sold in the market.

The case has been transferred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.
