A 22-year-old Indonesian maid allegedly offered her six-month old daughter born out of an illicit relationship, for sale for Dh6,000, was sentenced to three years in jail. SM was also ordered to be deported after serving her jail term by the Dubai Criminal Court.

Dubai Prosecution had accused SM of human trafficking and practicing prostitution.

Police had got a tip-off about an Indonesian woman willing to sell her six month old daughter for Dh6,000.

“We arranged to catch the woman red handed. So I pretended to be an infertile woman and my colleague acted as my husband. He called the woman and told her that I am infertile and that we are eager to buy her baby.

“He also asked her to reduce the price as we are poor. She agreed to sell her baby to us for Dh4,000 and hand over the child in the parking lot of Al Bustan.

“On February 4, she came carrying her baby. After giving her the money and after she gave me her baby, she was arrested by our colleagues,” testified Corporal Hind Ahmad.

After her arrest, the accused admitted to fleeing her employer in Ras Al Khaimah in September 2011 and working for other families on hourly basis before working in prostitution in Dubai.

“I went to my friend called Raya who works in Dubai and started working in prostitution until December 2012. I worked in ten brothels and received Dh30 from each customer. I made about Dh2,500 per month and a total of Dh10,000.

“I fell in love with a Pakistani called Tahir who offered to meet my expenses if I lived with him and stop working in prostitution. I had sex with him thrice in Raya’s flat and got pregnant. When I informed him that I am pregnant, he asked me to abort the baby. ‘

“When I refused, he threatened to leave the UAE for Oman. He switched off his mobile phone and disappeared. I resumed working in prostitution until the seventh month of pregnanty.

“Then I met a woman called Fatima who guided me to an Indonesian woman called Lina who helped me to deliver my baby on August 16, 2012 whom I named Anisa Noor Aini. As I need money to leave the country, I offered to sell the baby for Dh6,000. I asked a friend called Tiya to find me a buyer. I received a call from someone called Abdullah who gave me a phone number of a prospective buyer who turned out to be a policeman. I was arrested after selling the baby to the undercover policewoman,” she testified.

Police put the baby in the care of the Dubai Woman and Child Care Centre. Police found out that Tahir was a TV technician who lived in Oman and had entered the UAE illegally.

He was arrested and the accused recognised him as the father of her baby. Tahir is facing charge of having consensual sex outside marriage before the Misdemeanour Court.
