Hubby tries to bail out ex-wife, court says 'no'

A husband, who had filed a police complaint against his wife for meeting a man in a hotel room, sought to bail her out of the case by submitting a waiver to the Dubai Misdemeanour Court.

The judge of the court, however, rejected the attested waiver as the husband did not represent a side in the case any more.

In May, the Egyptian husband, in his thirties, had complained to Bur Dubai Police Station about his Ukrainian wife CL, also in her thirties, meeting a man in a hotel room. Police arrested CL and her partner AA, also Egyptian, following the husband’s complaint.

The husband later divorced his wife and dropped his complaint.

Dubai Prosecution, however, had to carry on with the case.  CL and AA were referred to the court, accused of promoting commitment of sin. When CL and AA appeared before the judge, they both admitted to meeting in a hotel room.

“I admit that I stayed with AA in a hotel room from 2am to 3 am,” the woman told the jury after submitting her divorce letter.

“I also admit to the incident,” AA, who was accompanied by his lawyer, told the jury.

After they admitted to the incident, a man entered the courtroom and waved to the jury, saying that he had a connection with the case.

The man, who was holding papers in his hand, told the jury that he is CL’s ex-husband and that he is here to support her.

“I am her ex-husband and I want to submit a waiver... I am here to help her,” he told the jury.

“Sorry, I cannot accept that waiver... and cannot listen to you... you simply cannot do that because you are not a party to the case,” the judge told the ex-husband.

The man apologised for disturbing the court and the judge expressed his acceptance of the apology.

The ex-husband was seen talking to his ex-wife outside the courtroom after the hearing.

The ex-husband refused to give the waiver to the lawyer of the other man.

The court will reconvene for defence on August 14.
