Hubby kills wife, leaves daughter with friend and flees country

A jobless Pakistani man allegedly killed his ‘wife’ and left his daughter with a family friend before fleeing to his home country, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On January 30, 2010 LR, 40, paid a sudden visit to Pakistan leaving behind his daughter with a family he had shared accommodation with.

His unplanned visit surprised his family members in Pakistan.

When enquired about his visit, LR confessed to the family that he had killed his wife in Dubai and left his daughter with a family friend.

LR did not say what he did with the body.

LR used to tell his family back home about the quarrels and physical violence between him and his wife.

He had a relationship before marriage that resulted in conceiving his daughter ‘Siba’.

On February 2, 2010, at around 12.30pm, RAK police found a body in a large sack that was emitting bad smell and hidden between trees in a deserted area.

Forensic was rushed to the scene and the body of a woman was examined.

The victim, NB, suffered a 15 cm by 5cm wound in her belly by a sharp tool, most likely a large kitchen knife. There were also bruises on her back that could have caused due to a fall after being fatal stab.

As the stab was strong and deep that reached to the spinal cord, investigators concluded that the woman did not commit suicide but someone else stabbed her, although there were no wounds on her arms and hand palm of defensive nature.

Police identified the woman as Asian in her 30-40 years of age.

After DNA tests were conducted on the daughter and that of the victim, the body proved to be of her biological mother.

DNA test on the accused proved that he was the biological father.

Police questioned the family friend with whom the child was kept. The father left the child with them claiming that his Pakistan visit would not last for more than ten days.

MR, the Pakistani family friend testified, “The father of the girl, who was my housemate, came and asked me if my wife and I can keep his daughter during his ten day visit to Pakistan. We agreed and the girl stayed with us while her father used to call her and talk to her. As he delayed returning, I asked him about the reason, and he said that his son is sick and that he will return once he finishes the passport issues of his wife and daughter.”

Other compatriots testified that they know the accused and the victim were living together as a wife and a husband. However, they did not have the chance to know if their marriage was documents.

Work supervisor MH, told investigators that the accused asked him to issue a travel document for his wife and daughter and submitted unofficial and unattested marriage letters.

His daughter also did not have a birth certificate. He also learnt from the accused that his marriage was not happy and that he used to fight with his wife.

Neighbours confirmed that the victim and the accused were constantly fighting.

The accused is charged with pre-meditated murder which he denied claiming that she stabbed herself while drunk.

The Court will reconvene on April 23.
