A seven-year-old Emirati girl suffering from brain tumor is showing some improvement at a cancer hospital in Germany, where she was sent last month by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

“Doctors told me she is getting better, her blood pressure and breathing are return to normal….she has also moved her eye lids,” her father, Anwar Al Baloushi said from Germany, quoted by ‘Emarat Al Youm’ daily.

He said his daughter had undergone chemical treatment at the hospital near Munich and that doctors intend to operate on her at a later stage.

Baloushi said he was grateful for Sheikh Hamdan’s gesture to save his daughter, who had been temporarily treated in the UAE before she was sent to Germany.

Lalia had stayed at Twam Hospital in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain for nearly three months and doctors had said she must be sent abroad for treatment after she failed to improve following two surgeries and chemical treatment.

Sheikh Hamdan, also chairman of the Dubai executive council, instructed the health department in the emirate to provide a special aircraft to transport Laila to Munich immediately last month.

“Upon learning of Laila’s condition, Sheikh Hamdan ordered that urgent measures are taken to treat her at the best medical centres in the world,” said Qadi Al Maroushid, director of the Dubai Health Department.

“We took all necessary measures to facilitate her travel and provided a special plane that flew Laila and her parents straight to Munich.”
