Indian, Pakistani drivers top accident stats

Asian expats involved in highest number of road accidents in Dubai so far, this year

Asians took the dubious honour of topping the list for being involved in road accidents during the first half of this year in Dubai, according to the General Directorate of Traffic Accidents.

Asians were followed by Emirati and Egyptian drivers.

Among the Asians, Pakistanis lead with involvement in 172 or 22.8 per cent of the total number of 765 accidents.

Eight people died and 289 were injured in accidents involving Pakistanis.

They were followed by Indians who were involved in 159 or 20.7 per cent of the total number of accidents, in which 15 people died and 249 were injured.

Emiratis were next with 149 or 14.9 per cent of total accidents in which 13 died and 214 people were injured.

Egyptians came fourth with 42 or 5.4 per cent of total accidents in which four died and 53 were hurt.

Expats from Japan and Latin American countries like Brazil and Argentina were not involved in any road accident during the first six months of 2012.

Guys, the percentage is not based on the TOTAL population of the UAE. Don't be ridiculous! The percentage is based approximately on the total drivers with UAE license...

In Germany you have to study 3 to 12 months to get your license any have to pay AED 5500 - AED 12,000 for your license!

the ones driving pick-up trucks - they sit in the middle lane, often at the same speed as a vehicle in the near lane, at excessively low speed. They then cause a tail back and other drivers get frustrated and start driving aggressively.

Please encourage safe driving and stop accidents...

Based on the %, no one should justify about nationalities. We should obey Traffic Rules and Regulations. Cent % I agree. But, We are all Human beings. As Mr.Mohsin Ali said, Indians and Pakistanis are the largest group in the country. Hence, % wise they are high. Please don't praise one nationality and under estimate other nationalities.

Well, I'm sorry to say that it is very true, Indians and Pakistanis are by far the worst drivers on the road not just here but also in Qatar. I really don't know how they pass their tests unless they pass then deliberately decide to drive with total ignorance to other users. I know they will reject what I have written but if the hat fits then they should were it. Only they can change the bad reputation they have by driving with more care and consideration.

Brits are as dangerous. They're just lucky that their UK licence can easily be transferred here. It just doesn't make sense because in the UK, they drive on the left and here it's right-hand drive.

Not surprised at all. No lane discipline at all. For them, morning traffic is always a RAT RACE!

Just see the total population of Indians and Pakistanis in UAE. All the taxi drivers are from these countries.

Hey guys..let's not take this debate to show prejudice to their nationalities. In fact Filipinos are not that great drivers. If you take each nationality individually, there will be good drivers and bad drivers amongst them... So let's respect other nationalities as well.
  • A.Shakur 22 July 2012 15:53 15 1
Half of the accident are because of poor time management. Everyone's in a rush :| Take it easy on the pedal or buy a helicopter :b

I have been always seeing these people driving recklessly on the road. Jumping one lanes to another without indicator and they've been always arguing on the road because of their being so arrogant. What I really like is the Filipino Drivers, because they are very disciplined people, very kind, humble and very down to earth. See, Filipinos are now the second highest population in Dubai, but you will very rarely see them on the news for committing any crimes in the UAE or everywhere in the world.

Yes the population of Indians and Pakistanis is the highest. Also most of them are hired as drivers in this city so its unfair to blame a nationality and or group
  • David 22 July 2012 13:44 7 2
A random and mandatory drug test should be conducted for drivers at the soonest. Alcohol level test should also be implemented...
  • Bruce 22 July 2012 13:32 31 3
If this were weighted according to population numbers Emiratis would top the list. How many times do you see white landcruisers or gold nissan patrols driving at speed flashing lights 12 inches behind you. Speaks for itself

So why should an English driver pay the same insurance premium as an Indian?
  • Prakash 22 July 2012 13:16 23 0
it will be good to see the nationality wise total percentage of drivers involved in accidents against each nationality wise license holder
  • Kaif 22 July 2012 13:06 2 10
Complete overhaul or road rules needed including strict speed limits.
  • nj 22 July 2012 12:36 24 2
The figures will be correct if you know the total number of pakistani/indian drivers on the road each day and how many of them were involved in an accident.
  • Muhammed Ali J 22 July 2012 12:22 39 5
Seeing as over 50% of the population is Indian or Pakistani, these numbers are skewed, purely due to the fact that there are so many Indians/Pakistanis on the roads. However, seeing as barely 20% of the population is Emirati or Egyptian, the fact that they are so high is a better indicator of what's happening on the roads here.
