Indian shopkeeper stabbed to death in Sharjah gang attack; 3 hurt

Three other wounded in stabbings at the Al Ghurair market in Rolla

A gang in Sharjah stabbed an Indian shopkeeper to death, while three others working in the shop suffered various injuries in an incident last night.

According to shopkeepers and people in the area who were witness to the incident, a gang of five to six men with swords and other weapons attacked the shopkeeper inside the Al Ghurair market in Rolla.

The victim, identified as Sharief, 34, and his work colleagues, all hail from Kasargod in Kerala, India, and were closing the shop after work at 10.30pm when they were attacked.

There was no comment from the Sharjah Police at the time of filing this report.

“Two of the men were involved in a fight at the shop, following a dispute on Thursday. In order to settle scores, the men returned with three others and attacked the staff,” a shopkeeper next door told this website.

According to him the shop, which was selling electronics goods, was being permanently closed down and a clearance sale was on.

“On Thursday, they tried to take away some stuff without paying, resulting in the argument. The men returned on Saturday around 6.30pm and were loitering around the place, before staging the attack around 10.30pm,” he added.

“Police arrived and admitted the injured men into a hospital,” said another source.

This is totally unaceptable. Taking law in own hand will lead to many destructions. Maximum penalty should be excersied on these lawless people. Police should ensure that UAE is free of this kind of unwanted criminals.

These locations require more police attention.

I cannot believe this is happening. Expats who come here to make a living gang up and attack another expat. The UAE has been a safe haven for all of us residents. Police needs to crack down on such criminals and reassure the residents that it is still safe. There are many pockets in Sharjah which are not safe for families anymore.
