Indian trader shot in broad daylight in Deira, Dubai

A shooting incident in the busy commercial area of Deira in Dubai left one person seriously injured.

An Indian hardware trader in Deira was shot at 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Sources close to the victim, however, said the Indian trader was shot at by three men outside his shop called Rezak Halal in Deira, after he was coming back from a nearby bank with cash.

“He was coming back from a bank after withdrawing Dh 160,000 and two men followed him.

“Once he reached his shop, one of the men approached him and when he turned around, another man took out a pistol and ordered him to handover the bag with cash,” said a source close to the victim.

“When he refused to hand over the cash and resisted, he was shot at,” said the source.

There were two attackers who were present at the site, and it is suspected that a third person was also involved.

Dubai Police have been warning bank customers to be careful, while withdrawing cash from banks.

The warnings came after the cases of thieves targeting customers and traders coming out of banks after withdrawing huge amount of cash.

“The victim is a hardware businessman from the Bohri community,” said another hardware dealer in Deira.

At the time of publishing Dubai Police had yet to confirm any details of the incident.

In another recent shooting incident in Abu Dhabi/Al Ain, after an alleged road-rage quarrel two young Omanis were allegedly shot dead. 

A few years ago in Abu Dhabi, a 21-year old Saudi youth who tried to rob two Saudi brothers. The shooting victim died in the Al Rashid Hospital.
