Investor gets 4-year jail for drugs, bribe

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced an Iranian Investor four years in jail for offering Dh1.5 million bribe to a police officer to set him free from a drug possession charges.

MSS, 53, was also ordered deportation after serving jail term.

According to the records, MSS was arrested for possessing 3.66gms of opium and 8 tablets containing alprazolam, consuming drug.

Lieutenant Salem Hamad testified that the accused was arrested following a tipoff about him possessing and taking drugs in his car at Al Mamzar area.

“Police confiscated eight tablets which he claimed are for his wife’s treatment. However, he later admitted taking opium. I went to inform my senior but when I returned my colleague told me that the accused had offered him a Dh1.5 million cheque against releasing him. My senior was notified with that as well. Urine test proved that he consumed drugs.

The accused confessed to possessing opium in his house in Al Mamzar area.
