A 57-year-old Saudi investor allegedly tore up a document which proved that he had received Dh200,000 from an Egyptian, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

OA is also accused of beating and abusing his Egyptian friend AM.

The victim AM, 47, supervisor, accompanied by a friend, had met the investor on April 25 in a restaurant in Muraqqabat at lunch time.

“We had agreed to meet to discuss the dispute relating to the amount that I had given him to invest. As he had failed to do it, I had asked him to return the money to me. While we were taking, I pulled out the receipt which he had signed, stating that I had handed over Dh200,000 to him. When I took out the receipt, he snatched it from me, put his hand under the table and tore it up. Then he punched me on the forehead and held my neck with his hand and abused me,” said the victim.

His compatriot and companion MM, 32, repeated corroborative testimonies.

The court will reconvene on November 20.
