A Japanese flight stewardess has been found strangled at her flat in Dubai and authorities have arrested her presumed husband for suspected murder although he had informed the police about her death.

Police doubt the suspect is the victim’s Tunisian husband after he produced a marriage certificate in Japanese language, saying they had sent the document to the Japanese embassy for translation to verify his claims.

The woman was found dead by the suspect at her apartment in Nahda two weeks ago and forensic tests showed she was strangled.

“The Tunisian man has been arrested as a suspect in the murder of the stewardess,” said Issa Sabt, acting director of the family prosecution.

“He said he knew of the victim’s death just after he returned home while the coroner said the death occurred nearly eight hours before examination.”

Sabt said the prosecution had asked the building supervisors to provide it with films taken by security cameras to check whether any one else had entered the victim’s apartment while her husband was at work.

“The suspect is still denying he has anything to do with the murder on the grounds the couple had no problems or disputes…the prosecution will not rush in indicting the man pending completion of investigations,” he told the Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum.

Mystery disease transforms young boy into a skeleton

A Saudi newspaper has published a picture of a boy which it said was reduced almost to a skeleton. The boy is not from famine-hit Africa but from Saudi Arabia, the world’s oil superpower.

Sabq Arabic language daily did not specify the age of the Salman, who it said has been bed-ridden at a hospital in the southern town of Abha.

Doctors told his aging mother that Salman needs to be transferred to a specialized hospital to diagnose his disease and find a treatment. But his mother is still objecting to his transfer on the grounds she is “much worried about him.”

The boy is the only male in the family after the death of his father. His five sisters have been married and live far away from their village although one of them often comes to help his mother looking after him.

“He is suffering from a rare disease that has caused him general weakness and continuous loss of weight…sometimes his temperature goes up sharply while he gets infections from time to time,” Sabq said, quoting Saeed Al Naqeer, information director at the department of health.

Man held for drunkenness and molestation

Fujairah police arrested an Asian man accused of molesting an Asian woman while drunk and said he would be referred to court.

The woman had called the police after the drunk man, in his 40s, walked besides her in a public place and behaved “indecently towards her,” the Sharjah-based daily Alkhaleej said.

“The man confessed to having alcohol but denied he molested the woman,” the paper said, adding that he was referred to the prosecution.
