A husband, who killed his wife after suspecting her of cheating on him and having sex with another man, was sentenced to life in jail for premeditated murder by a court in Dubai.

The 32-year-old Sri Lankan SS was also ordered to be deported after serving his jail term.

According to the records, on June 4, 2014, SS slapped his compatriot wife SH and stabbed her in the leg before strangling her. The crime happened in the villa of the victim’s employer in The Springs and after she told her husband that she was going to have sex with her boyfriend.

A police officer testified before prosecutors that the accused surrendered to Dubai Police and confessed that he killed his wife immediately after the incident.

However, police was also informed by the victim’s relatives about the crime when they discovered her body in the store room.  Shortly after that, SS turned himself in and confessed that he had stabbed his wife because she had cheated on him.

During questioning, the accused claimed that SH had been his wife since 2007 and since then she had been cheating on him with different men.   He also said that when he called her that day, her telephone line was constantly busy. Then he went to the villa and when he confronted her she told him that she was talking to her lover and was planning to go and have sex with him.

“I raged and slapped her. When she tried to strangle me, I grabbed a knife and stabbed her in the leg. When she tried to take away the knife, I sat on her chest and strangled her,” the accused told the officer while confessing his crime.

Discovering the crime

The victim’s cousin, KR, 35, who works as a maid in the same area, testified that on the day of the incident, she received a phone call from the victim who told her that she had a fight with her husband.

“I called her at 5pm but she did not reply. Then I decided to visit her at the villa where she works. When I reached the villa, I asked my cousin’s co-worker about her. She told me that she had not seen her. I was worried and went to search for her in the storeroom because I know that she was allowed to keep some of her stuff there. The door was partly open and I saw two legs on the floor. I was scared and did not enter the room. I called my aunt and when she came we discovered what had happened and called the police,” the cousin told prosecutors.

Police were rushed to the scene and investigated the case. The body was lying face down on the floor in the store of the villa.  Stains of blood were all over the floor and walls. The knife was also found in a corner of the room.

Forensic reported that the victim sustained multiple cuts in her face, neck, abdomen, hand, arm and thigh. She also had scratches on the neck, jaw, and other parts of her body.
